SAVANNAH – Thomas L. Fulton, Jr., 89, died Monday, November 28, 2011, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
The native and lifelong resident of Savannah was a 1948 graduate of Emory University and received his Masters degree from Armstrong State College in 1978. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He received the distinguished Bronze Star Medal.
After his retirement from the Air Force he taught history in the Effingham County School System for eight years.
Mr. Fulton was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He was also a former chairman and member of the Savannah Park and Tree Commission. He also served on the Georgia Salzburger Society Board of Directors. Many years after his retirement, Mr. Fulton continued to hear from former military buddies and former students.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam Kessler Fulton of Savannah; a daughter, Rebecca Fulton Truluck Richard of Rincon; 2 sons, Steven Perry Fulton Kathleen of Colorado Springs, CO and David Thomas Fulton of Savannah; a sister, Mary Fulton Finocchiaro of Savannah; and 3 grandchildren, Emilia Truluck of Rincon, and Alex and Ryan Fulton of Colorado Springs, CO.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers remembrances be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 West 31st. St., Savannah, GA 31401.
